Newcastle (Town Moor) Marathon – 28th October 2012

Dave Moir sends in this report from Sunday’s race. Mud, Mud Glorious Mud After a rather disappointing outcome at Chester 3 weeks ago (unable to run due to a pre-race chest infection) I sort of wanted to replace it with another marathon, as I was still in fairly good marathon shape. I toyed with the …

Amsterdam marathon – 21 October 2012

The club’s very own shining star, David Daniels, writes this report. Following the disappointment of dropping out of a race, what you need, in order to make those inner demons disappear, is to enter another as quickly as possible. So, two weeks after my failure to finish the Chester marathon, I was standing on the …

Amsterdam marathon – 21st October

Guy Rintoul reports from Amsterdam My preparation for Amsterdam had been lacklustre, to say the least. Unlike my first [and only other] marathon in Edinburgh in May, I didn’t do enough training for this one – only 55% of the miles, in fact. This was partly because I was running it alone this time and …

Round Ripon 35 Ultra – 6th October 2012

Dave Rowe reports from this year’s Ripon 35 Ultra race. In the week leading up to the race it appeared everyone around me was coming down with a cold so when it got to Friday night I was a relieved man that I had escaped its evil clutches. We set of …

Chester Marathon – 7th October 2012

Many, many congratulations to Jude Smith on finishing her first marathon. Completing the scenic course in 5h 17m 35s, Jude was the only TBH member to start AND finish the race after David Daniels had to withdraw after 18 miles due to severe stomach cramps. Sadly, David Moir failed to start the race due to a chronic chest cold. One …

Kielder RunBikeRun Race – 6th October 2012

Claire Grossett writes this fabulous report from the Kielder event. This was my first ever run-bike-run: my first event involving anything other than just my legs. I was understandably nervous that my two-wheeled friend would let me down. I had opted for a hybrid bike, rather than a mountain bike, as I hoped that what I lost …

Kielder 10K Race – 6th October 2012

Mark Reynolds reports back from the Kielder 10k on another successful afternoon for Tyne Bridge Harriers. It seems to be a fatal flaw of mine to only enter 10 km races that involve plenty of hills.  Having staggered round Morpeth, Edinburgh and Cragside next on the list was the Kielder 10k, staged the day before …

Loch Ness Marathon, 30th Sept

“That’s the last one until 18 miles,” panted a runner just beside us as we crested the big hill at five miles into last Sunday’s Loch Ness marathon. Through the tree cover on our left broke a view of the loch itself a couple of hundred metres below, as calm as a TBH coaches meeting. …

Redcar Half Marathon – 30th September 2012

Tyne Bridge had five members running in the 30th Redcar Half Marathon, and although the strong westerly winds made life difficult, every one of them performed stoically. First for the club (and finishing in 28th position overall) was David Daniels, in 1:22:30. Next was Dave Young, in 1:33:02, closely followed by Sophie Marr, 1:33:13. Fourth member across the line was Emma …

Tyne Bridge Harriers TW3

Or for younger readers, That Was The Week(end) That Was. Tyne Bridge members were involved in several events over the weekend, with the first race report coming from Alan Wallace.   Kielder Blast Fell Race Report: 29th September 2012 I was caught off-guard a few weeks ago when reading Louis Goffe’s article on Fell running.  I didn’t …

Dumfries Half Marathon – 23rd September 2012

Still jubilant after his great run, Dave Moir sends in this race report from the Dumfries Half Marathon.   A tough course ?? I’m still undecided if this is a hard course or not. It’s not a flat course by any stretch of the imagination (a rumour that our friends from Morpeth Harriers fed us and …

Jungfrau Marathon – 9th September 2012

A magnificent race report of the JUNGFRAU MARATHON by John Tollitt. If you’ve ever written one of those lists of ‘Things to do Before I Die’, drag it out, find a space at the top, and write in big fat marker pen ‘JUNGFRAU MARATHON’. The Jungfrau Marathon takes place every September in the Swiss Bernese Oberland …

VAANEE 10K Championships @ Monkton Stadium, Jarrow – 8th September 2012

Club member, Dave Moir, was TBH’s sole representitive at this year’s VAANEE 10k Championships and sends in this report. A bit of a disappointing turn out with only 7 of the 8 entrants making it to the start line, possibly due to a conflicting fixture taking many of the potential entrants over to Farringdon to compete in the …

Farringdon Relays – 8th September 2012

Kenny Mac writes this superb report about the first cross-country event of the season. ” Keep going, you can breathe at the end of the race.” It is said that Cross Country first started in the early 19th Century and the first official race was held at Rugby Public School in 1837 and was called the Crick …

Tynedale 10M Road Race – 2nd September 2012

Tynedale 10M race report by Shaun Brown After a week of cold weather the large contingent of TBHers taking part in the ‘Jelly Tea’ were hoping for more of the same but lined up on the start line in near tropical conditions. And with minimal warning, or actual idea where the start line was, the race …

Middlesbrough Tees Pride 10k Race

Woah!! When you’ve being running for as long as I have it’s not often you come across an event that blows you away, but today’s Middlesbrough Tees Pride 10k Race (sponsored by SABIC) certainly did that.     Kenny Mac sends in his report: Well, The build up wasn’t ideal, a week of little mileage substituted with …

Hawick 10k Race – 26th August 2012

Hawick 10k race report by Alan Wallace Mal Steel mentioned this race on Tuesday evening in passing before training. The moment passed in a blur but I managed to retain the words “Fast and Flat”. With that I was sold and before I knew it I was bundled into a car on Sunday morning for …
