Redcar Half Marathon – North East Champs 12-6-11
One of the main reasons that I decided to do this race, despite it being my third race in a week was that the conditions were forecast to be ideal with no wind and cool temperatures, so I felt it would be a shame to miss the opportunity.
We had 10 TBH’ers out in total, Paul Hilton, DD and Carter in one car, Me, Deka, Kerry and Mark Hall in another, Rob K, Mrs Rob and Dave Rowe in a third (Andy Harrison sensibly making his own way there) so we had ourselves a convoy, and following a few long cuts we got to Redcar, eventually.
The race started in glorious sunshine and it got fairly hot very quickly. A strong TBH pack set off together running 5:55s which I hung onto for a few miles but then felt a little too hot and started desperately looking for the first water station at 4 miles. Other people were feeling it too, and some actually stopped to drink at the water station.
We then headed out onto a dual carriageway which was fairly dull, seemed to go on forever and appeared to be slightly uphill. We turned around a roundabout and went back on ourselves and somehow along with the rather strong wind that had come from nowhere this also seemed also to be uphill (must have been an optical illusion or something). The wind kept up pretty much for the rest of the route making it fairly hard going, and also makes you wonder how much more time people would have taken off their PBs if the BBC had been slightly more accurate with their predictions.
PB’s to note :
Andy Harrison ran sub 1:30 for the first time in 1:28:59
Dave Rowe – 1:33 taking a massive 6 minutes off his PB
Full results are here :-
But we have a few corrections to sort out with the organisers.
Corrections and updates have been made and we can now say a massive congratulations to Paul Hilton, Mark Hall, Dave Daniels & Tony Carter for being awarded 2nd Male Team Prize. Very well done lads !!
