Senior Officers are responsible for the running of the senior section of the club.
Senior’s Head Coach
Name: Yamuna Thiru

What does your role involve: One of my roles is to set quality training sessions which work on speed, strength, and endurance but not necessarily all at the same time! I am also here to support leaders and coaches to deliver the sessions and develop their roles.
I completed my Leader in Running Fitness in 2020 and Coach in Running Fitness in 2023, and more recently have completed my event group endurance qualification. I’ve enjoyed putting the theory into practice and it’s been rewarding to see athletes achieve their goals. It brings me great joy to see our members enjoying training and improving fitness and performance whilst doing so.

Men’s Captain
Name: Michael Hedley

What does your role involve: I have been a member of the club since 2017 and involved with the North East running scene for over 25 years. As Men’s Club Captain, I hope that I can promote wider participation from all groups in local relays and the NEHL, as well as trying to make sure the club does well at the sharper end of things. So, if you have any questions about running in general, are nervous about relays, I would be happy to help.

Women’s Captain
Name: Rachel Turnbull

What does your role involve: My role involves coordinating club relays and cross country. We have a brilliant and supportive women’s team, something that’s often recognised by other clubs, and I’m continually impressed by the way our runners encourage each other and celebrate both individual and collective achievements. We’re the current holders of the North East Harrier League XC title, and this is just one example of what a great team we have!

Men’s Vice Captain
Name: Jacob Turner

What does your role involve: My focus is on helping members feel welcome and included, especially in the main club activities. I work closely with Rachel, Michael, & Rebecca, supporting their efforts by encouraging participation and being a listening ear for any concerns, particularly around Relays and Cross Country events, for members in Groups 3, 4 & 5. Also, taking on the responsibility for Member of the Month last year has been an absolute highlight!

Women’s Vice Captain
Name: Rebecca (Becca) Leigh

What does your role involve: I have been a member of Tyne Bridge Harriers since the winter of 2024, when I joined in a bid to continue running safely in the evenings and to meet new friends – happily, I achieved both of these things! I’m really excited to be joining the committee as women’s Vice Captain. Feel free to approach me if you have any questions or concerns about the races, and I’d be more than happy to help!
