VAANE ATHLETICS LEAGUE: 2013

trackThis season’s Track & Field Team Manager for the Men, Mal Gibson, has this appeal to club members.

After a successful start to the track and field season with a joint-first place in our first meeting (see Mr. Moir’s excellent report), the next chance to get your spikes on will be Monday 20th May in the Veterans Athletics Association North East. (VAANE) league for athletes over 35 which will take place at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow.

This is a much more low key event than the main league. Athletes are very friendly and supportive and if you are feeling competitive there are individual prizes and a league trophy for male and female athletes to compete for. This is very achievable for TBH and it’s members.

Athletes need to be a member of the VAANE as well as TBH to compete. The membership is only £20 per year and enables athletes to compete in various events including the track and field,  road races, cross country events and various relays. There is also a chance to compete nationally against other regional teams and to compete nationally or internationally too. Below is a link to the on-line application form. Please note you can’t join on the night.

The first meeting is on Monday 20th May. Track events start at 7pm and include 100m, 3000m and 400m. Field events start at 6.30 and consist shot putt, discus, javelin, high jump and long jump. Athletes can do a maximum of three events per meeting.

The other league meetings are on 3rd June, 17th June, 15th July and 29th July (All Mondays). The VAANE track and field championships are on Saturday 20th July.

If you’re interested, please speak to either myself, Micky Baker or Lisa Walker for further details.
