A magnificent 7 Tyne Bridge Harriers turned out to line up at the start of the 72nd running of Newcastle parkrun this morning.
Once again the moor was cold and blustery but it didn’t stop our athletes putting in some great performances as well as two New PB’s.
Tony Carter turned up this morning a little ‘ragged at the edges’, fresh from his all night celebrations at his graduation party and still managed to record a 17:42 time ( just a little jog around this morning eh TC?? ).
Congratulations to Dave Moir who was ‘up for it’ this morning & took on the 5k course full on and rocked home with a new PB on this course knocking a huge 22 seconds off his previous parkrun back in February to go sub 18 mins with a time of 17:57. Well done Dave.
Mark Hall was through next looking strong as ever, with a none too shabby 18:07.
On his first run out since his highly successful Edinburgh Marathon ‘jaunt’, Dave Appleby was “taking it easy” (as he said to me before the start) and crossed the line in a ‘taking it easy’ 18:26 !!.
Hot on Dave’s heels was Chris Meek who always makes this look so easy.. Chris sailed over the line in 18:30.
Gary Wright was ‘feeling the burn’ as he sprinted towards the finish line in 20:24, where he let out a huge sigh of relief when it was over. (there were other choice words that came from Gary’s gob when he crossed the line but I’m not printing them here )
Finally but by no means least.. and my Run Of The Day award goes to Victoria Waugh who in the cold and blustery conditions powered through the parkrun course to cross the line with a fantastic new shiny PB of 27:03.. knocking a massive 30 seconds off her run from just last week !!! . The Tyne Bridge Harriers training and Mum, Denise’s support & encouragement down the final straight really did the trick. Congratulations Victoria..fantastic achievement. Stick in & let’s have some more of that !!!
Thanks once again to all the volunteers at parkrun who make the event possible. We had Dave Daniels & Rob Kirtley from the club helping out today on Registration and Timing duties.
Newcastle parkrun are always looking for and welcome new volunteers. If you want to get involved with helping out at parkrun, please Email Ian Kirtley at firstname.lastname@example.org
