Junior’s coach Dave Moir reports from the latest cross-country race.

North East Harrier Leagure: Wallington Saturday, 29th November 2014

A foggy early start left the course fairly damp, but that didn’t dampen the enthusiasm shown by the TBH juniors

First up was Dillon Wallace as our only representative in the U11 boy’s race. Hopefully he will have more company in the next fixture, as some of our younger runners will be old enough to join him. Despite being on his own, Dillon came a very respectable 55th place.

Next up was the U11 girls where we had Anna Dorman, Lauren Bird and Hope Moir finishing 27th, 33rd and 39th and they would have closed our only team in an age category, if there was a team competition in the U11 races.

Ok so the U11s had finished with their races, and sneaked back to the tent to celebrate. We now know that we need a human monitor the drinks table at XC fixtures (Robbie was of no use at all, one “Bonio bribe” or a “Scoobie snack” and he’d turn a blind eye to anything). The 3 cups of coffee that we actually know Hope drank, seem to have made her even more talkative than she was previously, and she’s showing no sign of being ready for bed this evening.

Then we had Finlay Dorman, just keeping out of the top 10 (and the fast pack) finishing an excellent 13th in the U13 boys race. Watch out Finlay, I’d say it could be top 10 at Jarrow!!

Just a quick mention for Finlay’s brother Jake who would normally be running in the U13 race, but instead he had travelled to the other end of the country to run in the National School’s Cross Country Championship in a balmy 20C in Cornwall!! Fairly sure their results won’t be out anywhere near as quick as ours though, so I can’t say how he got on.

Finally in the U13 girls race, we had Eve Helm (with taped up shoes this time to keep them on) finishing an excellent 37th running from the fast pack, then Alicia Wallace backing her up finishing 52nd.

Again, this was a tough course by all accounts, and it definitely cut up, the more people had run on it, so well done to out TBH juniors for their usual level of commitment and fantastic efforts.
