Tyne Bridge Harriers are proud to have been asked to be a part of the This Girl Can initiative.
We pride ourselves on being an inclusive running club, believing running should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, gender or ability. We already have a membership that is comprised of over 45% female, many of whom were new to running and found Tyne Bridge to be a welcoming and supportive introduction to the experience.
Our beginners group held on Wednesday evening is a perfect way for those who are uncertain of what to expect, to start to enjoy the benefits of running in a group. At this session the runs are no longer than three miles and ran at the pace of the slowest runner, at Tyne Bridge nobody gets left behind. Many of our members have started their journey in our beginners group and as they have become more confident have moved into the main club groups on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our group structures are there to help and develop our members to achieve their goals and provide an ideal pathway into running without any pressure and with enjoyment being at the heart of what we do.
We are also proud to have a number of our members identified as This Girl Can ambassadors, these include Deborah Airey, Jane Shearer, Sophie Wardrobe and Faye Slade. They will always be on hand to help and encourage anybody who comes along as part of the initiative and to provide additional support and advice.
This is why TBH are happy to be a part of the This Girl Can initiative.
Fear of judgement prevents many people from taking part in exercise.
But This Girl Can wants to inspire women to prove that judgement is a barrier that can be overcome.
This Girl Can is a national campaign developed by Sport England and a wide range of partnership organisations, celebrating active women up and down the country who are doing their thing no matter how well they do it, how they look or even how red their face gets.
So if you want to change your life for the better, now is the time to do it.
