Rain and hail greeted approx 850 children from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 as they arrived from primary schools across the region to compete in the Newcastle Schools Cross Country Championships
 at Blakelaw Playing Fields.
Familiar TBH Junior faces were spotted through the crowds as they warmed up with their individual schools.  First to race were 240 year 3 and 4 girls which included Tyne Bridge Harriers’ Florence Snaith, Poppy Colver and Zara Bungay.  Florence Snaith led for the first 400 then settled into second.  She challenged for the lead again just past half-way but close the 5 metre gap and ultimately came home in a fantastic 2nd place, winning a silver medal.  This was a fantastic result as Florence is still in year 3 and was competing against year 4 girls. Poppy Colver was the next TBH who had a very strong run picking off several Y4 girls as she rounded the last corner of the course finishing in 20th place followed by Zara Bungay.
In the year 5, 6 girls race, over 200 girls ran. Ruby Colver set off strongly holding first position for three quarters of the course. Chased down by two others who overtook her she came back to lead just before the final stretch. She was pipped to the post to finish in 3rd position earning a fantastic bronze medal.
Fantastic achievements from Tyne Bridge Harriers.  Thanks to Alan Snaith and Rhonda Colver for the details.
(We couldn’t find the official times anywhere so please let me know if I have missed anyone!)
