North East Harrier League Cross Country

Race 1: Wrekenton

Saturday 28th September 2019

After a really wet early morning, thankfully the predicted rain didn’t arrive, and despite some fairly heavy rain earlier in the week, the course was still pretty firm with a few muddy puddles if you like that sort of thing.

First up were the U11 races with the boys heading off first.

First timers Lucas Powell and Aiden Jones both gave great account of themselves with Lucas finishing in 49th position in a time of 7:16 and Aiden a few places behind in 57th in a time of 7:22.

Next up was Anna Carr (also a first timer) who had a great run finishing 42nd in a time of 8:27

Then our only U17 competitor Fraser Bigg (also his first XC race) was up in his 3 mile race, finishing in 23:06 for 41st place.

The U15s were up next, with the girls closing a team for the first time at a harrier league meet. Amber Maynard was fist back in  57th place in a time of 13:41, next was Hope Moir in 61st place in a time of 14:13 being backed up by Katie Smeaton in 63rd place in 15:00 dead.

The final junior races of the day were the U13s, with again the girls closing a team and the boys agonisingly one short with a few other sporting fixtures calling regulars away. First in was Ruby Colver, whose commitment to training is really starting to pay off, resulting in 36th place in 12:13. Next in was Laura Whitman in 87th place in a time of 14:22 with Abigail Fraser finishing the team in 88th place a few seconds behind in 14:25, with her sister Chloe just behind in 91st in 15:12

Both our U13 boys were running from the fast pack, and did really well (despite the 1 minute 40 second time handicap) with David Carr coming 50th in an actual time of 10:28, then Harry Snaith backing him up in 68th in an actual time of 11:20

Cheese and Apple Chutney on seeded sour dough were sandwiches of choice in the Moir picnic basket.

Only a week to wait until the next one on Sunday 6th October at Druridge Bay, so if anyone else wants to join us, just drop me an e-mail (click here) with your name and DoB and I will register you.
