2016 NEMAA Track & Field Championships

Jacqueline Etherington reports from the North East Masters Athletics Association (NEMAA) Track & Field Championships.

Monkton Stadium (Jarrow): Saturday, 25th June 2016

12 of our Master athletes represented the club in the annual track and field championships and did not disappoint!

A total haul of 41 medals were won including 12 golds, 21 silvers and 8 bronzes with 17 club records being recorded!

Jen Patterson achieved 6 club records in her age group collecting 3 golds and 3 silvers.

Louise Lennox demonstrated her versatile ability gaining a gold in the 1500m then winning the High Jump to achieve not only an age group record but also a Senior record. (Louise achieved a total of 5 medals on the day).

Other medals winners included Parul Akter (1 gold & 1 silver), Sara James ( 3 silver & 3 bronze), Catherine Eaton (1 silver), Lisa Walker (2 golds & 1 silver) Rob Kirtley (4 silver & 1 bronze), Rob Savage (1 gold & 2 bronze), Christopher Bartlett (1 silver & 1 bronze), Paul Routledge (1 silver) and Jacqueline Etherington (3 golds & 2 silvers).

A pretty impressive haul and without calculating precisely I reckon potentially the most medals won by one club on the day (I will get my calculator out later)!, showing that as Master athletes in the North East we are a club to be reckoned with!

Thanks to Louise Kelly for the support and endless supply of snacks (healthy and not-so-healthy ;-)  ) during the day.

Next league fixture is Monday, 4th July, starting around 7pm, so let’s get plenty of TBH’ers out, even if just field events or as a warm up the night before our 5M Bridges Race!

Cheers,
