TBH Member of the Month: April 2015

For April’s Member of the Month, the voting committee invited nominations from club members and the response was overwhelming.

There were almost 50 nominations, ranging from members who had achieved PB’s or won awards (Magda Grinsdale‘s 10K PB and Alan Hodgson winning two NE Masters Gold Medals), members going out of their way to help others (Sara James leading the Group 5 marathon training runs and Sophie-Marie Wardrobe inspiring everyone she run’s with) and there were also nominations for those hardy souls who competed in the various marathons throughout April (TC setting a club record at London, Ian Walton progressing from the Beginners Group to running a Sub 4 Hour marathon within a year, and the fighting spirit of Margaret Eccles, overcoming the misery of breaking her foot last year to fulfilling a lifetime dream of completing a marathon).

These, and all the other nominations I haven’t mentioned, would all be worthy winners but alas only one person can be selected as MotM, and for April 2015 that choice is SHAUN COWAN

On top of training for his own marathon (at Manchester) and encouraging everyone else in his training group, Shaun also organised travel and accommodation for a party of TBH members (an arduous task for yourself never mind for 12 others) and backed up this hard work with a terrific time of 3:38, a marathon PB of nearly 40 minutes

And then, just one week later, Shaun completed the London marathon in 3:43 (obviously just out for a Sunday stroll – DD)
