2012 Comrades Marathon

Many congratulations to club member, John Hurse, for completing this year’s ultra-marathon event in a time of 8h 56m* :-)

Arguably the greatest ultra marathon in the world where athletes come from all over the world to combine muscle and sinew and mental strength to conquer the approx 56 miles (90 kilometres) between the cities of Pietermaritzburg and Durban. Not only that, but they must do so within 12 hours.

John’s incredible performance has earned him a special Bill Rowan bronze and silver medal, awarded to runners finishing between 7h 30m and 9 hrs.

His time of 8h 56m 23s* meant John finished 2517th overall.

Race report and results to follow.

It’s difficult to find the words to express how brilliant a performance you have delivered there John. Incredible, awesome, fantastic… words don’t do it justice. I hope there are some photos of the race. Your legs must be shot to pieces.

Very many congratulations John – epic performance in the Comrades. Well done on achieving your aim of breaking 9 hrs, looking forward to the report when you’ve recovered. Also liking the picture of you up there – must have been pretty hot to ditch the running gear, but I’m sure the winged feet helped the miles fly by! :)
