TBH Summer Series 2012

Club Captain, Paul Hilton, writes,

This Tuesday, April 17th, is the first race of our 2nd Summer Series.

It was a year ago when we held our 1st ever Summer Series race, when Tony Carter was triumphant in a superb time of 10.34 for the undulating 2 mile course through Jesmond Dene. Marc fenwick was the overall Male winner last year and also holds the course record with the seemingly untouchable 10.08 for the exact 2 mile route. Kerry Reed is the current Ladies Summer Series champion with Catherine Willis being the fastest Lady on the course of 13.51.

The race on Tuesday will be a straight 2 mile race, with everyone setting of at the same time and 50pts being awarded to every finisher, to count towards their final tally. After Tuesday’s race, handicap times will be worked out and the rest of the Summer Series will be ran in a similar fashion to the Winter 5k Series, where members  get their own handicap time and set off at different times (but hopefully all finish together in a blanket finish).

This was very popular last year and lets all make it as much fun this year. The start and finish is at the Armstrong Bridge in Jesmond (Just down from the Corner House pub at the end of the Coast Road), and members can either meet there at 6.30 or just meet at pool as normal and we can warm up by jogging the 1 mile to Armstrong Bridge.  The race will start promptly at 7.

Look forward to seeing you all there, Paul.

A fantastic, accurately measured course. For those who haven’t raced on this before, its a fast mile and a half followed by an undulating 1/2 a mile! Last year Marc Fenwick turned up with his one day old baby daughter and smashed the course record! She responded to this epic feat by snoring. However, ANY member can win this race with the handicapping system. A great setting, especially in the summer. I can’t wait!

For all the newbies of which there are many, get yourself along for this race on Tuesday, the first mile marker is under Armstrong Bridge and there is a good rise to the finish in mile 2. This is a great course and you will be able to chart your progress throughout the Summer, Good luck
