Tyne Bridge Harriers Announce 2012 Charity Event

50 Mile Relay Quayside Challenge

Tyne Bridge Harriers are proud to announce that on the Saturday 21st April at 10am they will be running a Fundraising event for two charities based at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, The Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF) & The Freeman Heart & Lung Transplant Association (FHLTA). The race will start and finish at Baltic Square, Gateshead Quays NE8 3BA and will be started by the Mayor & Mayoress of Gateshead, Councillor Joe & Mrs Jen Mitchinson.

Background

CHUF is at the forefront of children’s cardiac care by raising money to buy equipment, facilities, aftercare, pay salaries and research for the Children’s Heart Unit and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Small pieces of equipment help the nurses and doctors on the wards and larger items help doctors and surgeons undertake complex operations. Sometimes funds are used to help pay for medical and support staff, essential to the running of the unit and also for specialist resources to help children and their families. The FTLTA provide and assist in the provision of amenities at the Freeman Hospital which includes equipment and support for patients who are sick and convalescing or in need of financial assistance.

Course Description

The course will follow the Great Way Route heading west along South Shore Road crossing over the historic Swing Bridge and returning east along Newcastle Quayside crossing the fantastic Gateshead Millenium Bridge back to Baltic Square.

    Excellent work Steve and crew for setting this up and getting it all sorted.. Sounds like its going to be an excellent day and raising vital funds for two very worthwhile causes.

    Hi Steve,

    Following on from our conversation of last night, Including a links direct to each charities Just Giving page wil prevent us knowing exactly how much has been raised throught his event. Donations made in this way will go direct to the each charities’ bank account. It would have been better to have set up our own Just Giving page with monies paid into the club bank account.

    Hi Ron
    Just in reply to your note about. Its is possible to see how much has been raised for each charity on the page, if you have a look on the FHLTA page now you will see there is £10 donated. The just giving account belongs to me so I can keep everyone in the loop. Its definately the easiest way to fundraise as you dont have to mess about chasing people for money and counting up coppers, cashing cheques etc.
    The only problem is you can not have 1 page for 2 charities which is why we had to do two pages. There are also paper forms avaialble and we will be collecting money on the day of the race which will be divided equally.

    Hi Elspeth,
    I did not appreciate that we’d set up two new pages which, as you say, is fine as we have control. I did have a long conversation with Steve on Tuesday as i work for the two Newcastle Hospital charities.

    Good luck to all those taking part in tomorrow’s event. Sadly, participation in the London Marathon means I’ll be away this weekend, but I’m sure it will be a wonderful occasion, raising monies for two worthwhile charities.
