Happy Birthday Tyne Bridge Harriers

Tyne Bridge Harriers celebrated their official 1st Anniversary this week.

It was 12 months ago that 14 members of Tyne Bridge Harriers (then under the short lived name of Newcastle Harriers) got together at the East End Pool in Byker for the very first training session. The session consisted of 8 x 0.5 miles with 90 seconds recovery.

Tyne Bridge Harriers - 1st Training Session - 18th January 2011

On Tuesday 17th January 2012, 58 members of Tyne Bridge Harriers congregated at the same location to take part in the 4th Race of the TBH Winter GP.

In just 12 months the club has grown massively & gained over 120 new members of all abilities. The club has made its mark on the North East Running Circuit as we continue to move up the league tables in local competition. Our membership is growing rapidly on a weekly basis and it is why Tyne Bridge Harriers are one of the most popular and fastest growing North East Running Clubs.

Tyne Bridge Harriers - 17th January 2012

2012 promises to be another excellent & exciting year for the club as we continue to enter teams into all the main competitions and races throughout the season including the NEHL XC Events & the Northern Athletics Track & Field league where we will be joining forces with Heaton Harriers.

We also see the launch of our very own RUN:TBH Magazine next month.

We expect to see our membership continue to develop and rise significantly as the word continues to spread about not only the quality of training that is delivered at weekly sessions, but also the friendliness and support that the club offers to all of its athletes.

Great stuff !! .. Happy Birthday to US.. in our short existence we have silenced the doubters and the haters and I am very proud of all the achievements and the efforts that every single person has put in to make TBH a fantastic running club. There really isn’t another like it.. TBH will go from strength to strength.. keep moving forward

…and to quote once again the words of Churchill

“Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”

    Happy birthday TBH

I must admit that I was one of the doubters about the viability of another running club in the area. Boy was I wrong! Congratulations to everyone involved and especially to Steve and Double D for persuading me to join and wear the WHITE & black colours (but always with a little bit of red attached somewhere). I wish the club every success in the coming year and give my personal thanks to Double D, Dave Anderson and Rob Kirtley for their time and encouragement to enable me to rekindle my love for running. You will definitely see me competing more over the next 12 months.

TBH should be so proud of what they have achieved in this amazing first year. I watched from the sidelines as it grew, and was always impressed by their organisation and the way they presented themselves at races. I remember saying at the end of Heaton Harriers 10k in November “Those Tyne Bridgers are a bit of a force to be reckoned with”
I wondered and still wonder where the name came from though? Shed any light?
After a bit of temporary adoption, a comedy shove at a start line (Pudding Run) and a few tester club nights, it became apparent that TBH was where I belonged and where my heart was. It’s never an easy decision to change clubs, but I knew immediately that coming to TBH was the best thing I could have done. I have made some fantastic new friends and feel looked after and motivated by brilliant runners. I wear my black and whites with pride and look forward to everything TBH will bring me in the year ahead.
Happy Birthday to you, Tyne Bridge Harriers! You rock!
