Pier to Pier Race: 12th May 2013

Well done to everyone who took part in this year’s Pier To Pier race.

Bright blue skies and a North-Westerly wind meant conditions were just about ideal for racing, and as the results show, many of the club members took full advantage of them.

First finisher for the club was Kevin Jeffress, coming home in 9th place overall. Kev, still in great form following his fantastic run at the MoTN marathon, looked at ease throughout, and with good fortune (and a little luck) will hopefully have a terrific summer of racing.

Matty Tomlinson was second finisher for the club, with myself, Stephen Barker and David Anderson (the younger) just a few minutes behind Matty.

Completing the turn-out for the men were; Andy Lisle, Dan Birchall, Keith Rooney, Micky Baker, Henrik Aitcher and Scott Wilkinson.

Charlotte Carpenter was first female for the club, with Lizzy Clamp, Natalie Ohlson, Joanne Wood, Stephanie McFarlane and Sue Mullinger all finishing strong.

Dan Jenkin (Durham Harriers) was race winner, with Vanessa Cutter (Gateshead Harriers) winning the ladies race.

Many thanks must go the race organisors, Sunderland Strollers, for putting on a terrific event and for continuing the fine tradition of handing out crisps and chocolate at the end of the race. Is there a better way to begin your race recovery? ;-)
