ERRA – National Men’s 6 Stage Road Relay Championships 2012

Following the club’s fantastic performance in finishing amongst the top clubs at the Northern Men’s 6 Stage Road Relays, it was now the turn of Louis Goffe, Sparrow Morley, Paul Hilton, Darryl Davison, David Daniels and Tony Carter to represent the club at the National finals, held at Clumer Park (Worksop) on 13th October 2012.

(L-R) Louis, Sparrow, Paul, Darryl, David and Tony

All six members gave 100% effort and eventually finished a respectable 49th position, out of 64 competing teams. Their cause was helped by the tremendous support offered by fellow club members Ron Murray, John Hurse, Chris Meek, Denise Waugh and Jude Smith, who travelled to the event to specifically back the team. A fabulous act, and something greatly appreciated by the six runners.

Leg Times:

Louis 16:53

Sparrow 16:38

Paul 17:40

Darryl 17:52

David 18:19

Tony 18:01

Well done to the other North-east representives, Morpeth, Gateshead and Durham, who all performed superbly.

You can read Bill McGuirk’s report from the Evening Chronicle here and results can be found here.

Even though I’ve attended many of these championships before, witnessing the speed and athletic grace of the countries finest runners in action is still a bewildering sight. But the fighting spirit of tbh shone through yet again and it was a honour to run with the other 5 guys in such a prestigious event. Hopefully i’ll get another opportunity to compete in the future.
Thanks to everyone who travelled on Saturday, especially tbh’s “rent-a-crowd”, as the whole day was a joy.

This was another exceptional day in the short history of this club and it was great to hear our representatives say “We want more of this”. I know I repeat myself but these are the days when being in a club really matter, as Double D says, to see the other clubs in action is something to bejold and , although we have come a long way, it also shows how far we still have to climb.

The locatoion on Saturday, Clumber Park, was first class and certainly will give Sutton Prk, the mecca for all relays, a run for its money even if the course marshalling left a bit to be desired at times.

On a lighter note, we probably bought the most “hot” sandwiches between us on Saturday giving our contribution to the national trust.

Well one every one, you have set the standard for next year!

    1. Some great comments there Ron, but I really do think you should look at getting a new keyboard. Your existing one seems knackered ;-)

We need to remind ourselves of what this means – 49th may not seem much at first glance, but what this means is that we were the 49th fastest club on the day from the hundreds of clubs in the whole of England who entered, or were eligible, for this National Championship. This is truly a major step-up the competitive heirarchy – from local, to regional (NE Counties), to Area (North of England), to National – for our wonderful club.
    Well done gentlemen!
