Tyne Bridge Harriers Club Championships 2012

And the winners are…

2012 Club Champion (Male) Tony Carter, and 2012 Club Champion (Female) Carolina Freeman. Congratulations both.

For Tyne Bridge Harrier’s 2012 Club Championship it was decided to hold the race during the Clive Cookson 10k (superbly hosted by North Shields Poly running club).

Instead of the usual race report, some members have provided their thoughts leading up to, during and after the race.

Before.

Stuck in traffic on the way to the race.  Hopefully, we’ll miss the start and can go back home. Worse luck, the traffic resumes and we soon reach race headquarters.  That school is not like any school I ever went to. Vicki Deritis

Plan to run under 40 minutes. John Tollitt

Hopefully get round without picking up an injury (as at North Tyneside 10k) and having to walk half the course. Double D

Lots and lots of fit looking people here, most of them in club vests. Let’s try to avoid coming last. VD

Brilliant to see so many club members turn out for race. Exciting too, seeing all the ‘fast lads’ going for the Championship. Fenwick, Carter, Sparrow, Neeson, and not forgetting Big Mac. DD

During.

This is just like being out in the country. All very pleasant indeed. VD

Sat in a nice little group, consisting of myself, Peter Kennedy, Kevin Lister and a Claremont runner all the way round. Don’t look at watch until finish line. JT

Great conditions for racing. Warm, bright, with just a slight breeze. If only my body felt in such great condition. DD

Sean Kelly keeps popping up everywhere. He looks as if he is in a hurry to get somewhere. Bit like that family on the Fast Show. VD

No garmin tonight, no idea what pace I’m running. Plan of action. Look for runner ahead – overtake – repeat until finish. DD

There’s Sean Kelly up ahead, I better run a bit faster as I go past him. Alex Lockwood

Where did Keith Smith get his pace from? KM

Tried to lose other 3 on final 2k descent and thought I had until Peter flew past me on final 100m. The r#:*$”s. JT

Damn. There’s Darrly Davison up ahead, I better run a bit faster as I go past him. AL

Why did I pick up and run with a water bottle for the final 200m. What was the point of that? VD

Into final 1k, and DM (Dave Moir, not Danger Mouse) is about 50m ahead. Try to catch him but distance is too great. I will get him next time (cue manic laughter haha!!!) DD

Oh hell!! There’s a crowd of TBH’ers up ahead, I better run a lot faster as I go past them. AL

After.

Pleased with time of 38m 23s. Until..I realised it was same as my PB from NT 10K. Why didn’t I push on more at end rather than ease off when Peter passed me. JT

Wow. I finished without stopping, walking or injurying myself. What a result. Not my fastest 10k time (just under 38 minutes) but happy to have ran a steady race. DD

Delighted by the performances of Imran Mohammed, Keith Smith, Caroline Smith and the ladies in general. To claim Women’s 2nd Team prize is reflection upon their hard work and progress at the club. KM

On reflection, glad with time and really enjoyed the whole evening. JT

Splendid doughnuts. VD

I wish the club didn’t have so many supporters, then I may be able to run an even paced race and not speed up every time I saw a member. Went from 7min miling, to 6,40 to 6,30 before finally blowing up and running 7,30min miling for final mile. AL

On a personal note, fastest time on this course but not happy. I have been doing a lot of speedwork and hill running, didn’t have enough stamina on night, back to the drawing board.  I’ll be back.  KM

Well done to TC and Carolina. It was fantastic to see so many TBH vests out there last night. It was a bit of a contrast to last year where we had 10 out and that was considered a brilliant turnout. Great stuff from all who turned out, runners and spectators.
