The TBH 2012 Summer Grand Prix series got off to a excellent start with 65 athletes turning out to compete.
Amazing to note that when we had our very first Summer GP last year, 15 athletes lined up at the start. Shows how far the mighty TBH have come in a short space of time.. well done !
Weather conditions were near perfect with only a brief shower of rain at the start of the evening taking the warmth out of the air as athletes gathered on Armstrong Bridge in Jesmond Dene.
The Grand Prix series is usually a Handicap race but as this was the first, all runners were started together in order to work out their appropriate starting time for the second race next month.
As well as runners, we also saw an excellent turnout of club members who did a fantastic job marshaling the event, time-keeping and supporting the athletes. Thanks to all concerned for your support !.
From the outset, Kenny Mac took the lead and held on to it for the duration of the accurately measured 2 mile race through Jesmond Dene in what was going to be a close battle between himself, Jack Neeson & defending Summer Series Champion, Marc Fenwick
Mac stormed home to record a brand new Veteran Course Record in a time of 10:38, closely followed by Neeson (10:40) & Fenwick (10:45). Following this, a steady stream of proud TBH runners started to push their way up the ‘sting in the tail’ hill towards the finish line.
For the Ladies, it was the ever improving Carolina Freeman who had a fantastic run to record a brand new women’s course record with a time of 13:06 !!
Every runner taking part put their heart and soul into the race with some superb performances right across the board. For many, this was the first time on the 2 mile course giving them a benchmark time to ‘chip away’ at throughout the rest of the series.
Fantastic cheer of support from everyone in the club for the also ever improving Diane Pringle who told me after the race
6 months ago, I would not even have considered walking the 2 miles through Jesmond Dene let alone run it.. it’s all thanks to the support of Tyne Bridge Harriers

The next race in the series will take place on Tuesday 15th May when the handicap system will commence.
As this was the first race of the series, each athlete was awarded with 50 points towards their final series total.

Excellent work getting the results out on the night. Well done everyone. Roll on GP2
What a fantastic turn-out of members. And some excellent performances too. But i see the young padawans were out paced by the master during the race. The force is strong with that one.
Great night, 65 runners, remarkeable! In total, we must have had in excess of 80 members out last night if you include those who marshalled and were there just to watch. Shows where this club is going, forwards and up!
A mass turnout and it was a fantastic night , 65 on our 1st race of the Summer Series is magnificent , well done everyone.
