Newcastle parkrun GP Race 2: Results

Thirteen Tyne Bridge Harriers lined up at the start of Newcastle parkrun on Saturday to take part in the 2nd of the clubs parkrun GP series. The perfect running conditions certainly made for an excellent turn out both for the club and for parkrun as a field of 214 runners set off on the 5k course.

Tony Carter @ parkrun. New PB 16:16

Very strong running from all of our club athletes taking part. The superb quality of training sessions is once again showing itself in the form of some great times and achievements. One winner, five PB’s and four of our runners in the top 10 was the order of the day. So CONGRATULATIONS to Tony Carter for once again taking first place and also recording a 5k PB on the parkrun course of 16:16. Mark Hall‘s running is on fire at the moment and he also PB’d with a time of 17:26. Just a few seconds behind mark followed David Appleby with another superb run of sub 18’s, recording a PB of 17:43. Huge celebrations for Dave Rowe who continues to go from strength to strength in every race who achieved a fantastic PB and smashed the 20 mins by putting in an excellent and solid run and getting 19:21. Also, well done to one of the new boys Daniel Birchall who made his first appearance in a Tyne Bridge Harriers club vest and notched up a shiny new 5K PB with 19:29. Well done to everyone.

Once again Graham King was first in his age category as he continues to his return to excellent form, as does Rob Kirtley who has put the disappointment of the London Marathon behind him and is heading forward in the right direction to get his racing times down again. Deka Reed is also putting in some excellent training and getting closer to the sub 19:00. Dave Young ran a strong 5K just outside of 20 mins, while Joy Fenwick & Lisa Walker put in some great running and also got themselves onto the parkrun GP scoring table (best 4 of 6 races to count). Micky Baker, who also ran the Jesmond Dene race on Thursday, unfortunately seemed to aggravate the injury he’s been trying to shake for a couple of weeks, but never the less, finished the 5K race and recorded his time. Hope you get recovered soon Micky.

Great to see Tyne Bridge Harriers new recruit Sparrow Morley putting in a tremendous 17:22. Looking forward to some more great racing from Sparrow in the near future.
